Mike Toomey | Documented False Claims
Mike Toomey claimed he wanted to buy, fix, and flip a property where he had rented a unit for many years. However, he had neither the funds nor the collateral to purchase or receive a loan for the home. What he did claim was that he could do any labor required to fix and flip it.
The property was deemed uninhabitable after a fire roughly two years before, and was vacant with no certificate of occupancy and no tenants.
Background
An Opportunity He Was Given
Mike's friend generously offered him an opportunity: he would work with another investor to purchase the property, and if Mike was willing to provide the labor, he could make money on the sale. The investor would own the property and pay for materials, Mike would provide the labor, and everyone could profit.
Mike was unable to accept this opportunity. Over the course of the next few months, he would scam and cheat the owner and his friend.
The Fraud
What He Actually Did
From before the property purchase even closed, Mike fought that the property was his and that no one could tell him what to do with it. He started leaving his German shepherd inside to prevent access to others.
Mike provided fraudulent receipts for materials reimbursement, including clothing and materials for other jobs.
Mike completed minimal labor on the property. The investor paid tradesman directly, including roofing, drywall, painting, and plumbing.
The labor Mike did do was of such poor craftsmanship that it needed to be torn out and redone, resulting in significantly wasted funds and lost equity. Any flooring, cabinets, doors, and windows that he installed needed to be removed and redone.
Mike broke the utility access points for water and gas trying to turn them on without permission. The owner had to pay to have those replaced.
His Real Plan
He Never Intended to Flip the Property
It later came out that Mike had no intention of ever flipping the property. His plan was to use his friend for funding but never pay him back, get the house fixed up for free, and then rent out the units himself. He even had prospective tenants lined up with rent amounts.
In other words, there would never be a flip and never be a profit. He tried to get the property for free and then illegally rent out the units.
Removal
He Refused to Leave
When it was clear that Mike was unwilling and unable to finish the job, he was asked to leave the property. When he refused multiple times, the police were called. When he refused still, he was officially trespassed. His abandoned vehicle was towed by the town.
Since January 2026
Ongoing Harassment and Criminal Charges
He then began a Facebook crusade while stalking and harassing the owner and his friend. This has been ongoing since January 2026.
The owner and Mike's friend now have protective orders against Mike. There are multiple charges against Mike, including stalking in the fourth degree, aggravated harassment, possession of stolen property, three violations of the protective orders, and the fire marshal's office has pressed its own charges.
